Is HI-COM a translation agency, or something more?

Do you only translate into Chinese, or also out of it for use abroad?
Both. HI-COM translates into Chinese for companies and individuals operating in the China market, and out of Chinese — or between any of its other language pairs — for documents headed to Europe, the Americas, Australia and elsewhere. What’s the difference between a certified and a notarized translation?
A certified translation comes with a signed statement from the translator or translation provider attesting to its accuracy — that’s what most Chinese authorities and many foreign institutions require. A notarized translation adds a notary public’s verification of the translator’s identity and signature on top of that statement. See Apostille & Notarisation for how that additional step works.
Can I translate my own documents for an official or immigration purpose?
Generally, no. Most receiving authorities — in China and abroad — require translation by a certified translator or agency, not the document holder themselves, specifically because a self-translation can’t carry an independent certification of accuracy.
Do I need a sworn translator, or is a certified translation enough?
It depends on the receiving country. “Certified,” “sworn,” and “NAATI-certified” translation each mean something different depending on the jurisdiction — see Sworn Translation for the country-by-country breakdown.
Is Google Translate accepted for official Chinese documents?
No. Documents submitted to Chinese authorities for visas, residence permits, academic recognition or business registration generally require a certified translation carrying a translator’s or agency’s seal and signature — machine translation alone doesn’t meet that requirement.
Which Chinese authorities actually require certified translation?
Most commonly the Public Security Bureau (visas, residence permits), the Civil Affairs Bureau (marriage and civil documents), the Ministry of Education (academic and study-abroad documents), the China Immigration Administration, and hospitals, universities and tax bureaus depending on the document.
