CHINA PARTNER SEARCH & DISTRIBUTION
Partner Search & Distribution
HI-COM’s China-based consulting team finds the distributors, importers and channel partners already operating in your category, using chamber-network and trade-show relationships to reach candidates who are actually reachable, not just the largest names in the industry.

THE SHORT ANSWER
What Does Partner Search & Distribution Include?
HI-COM identifies distributors, importers and channel partners already active in your category in China, vets which of them are realistically reachable, and uses chamber-network and trade-show relationships to open a direct conversation. The goal is a shortlist of the right candidates, and an actual introduction, not just a directory of company names.
Distributor Identification
Mapping who already distributes in your category, region by region.
Candidate Vetting
Checking which candidates are realistically reachable and worth pursuing.
Chamber & Trade-Show Sourcing
Using real chamber-network and trade-show relationships, not cold outreach alone.
Introduction & Negotiation Support
Opening the conversation and supporting you through early-stage negotiation.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- The most obvious, top-tier distributors are not always the most reachable ones.
- Chamber-network and trade-show contacts open doors that cold outreach usually cannot.
- Candidates are vetted before an introduction is made, not handed to you as an unfiltered list.
- Partner search connects directly to market research and market entry strategy if you need the fuller picture first.
KNOW WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR
Distributor, Agent or Importer — Which Do You Need?
The right partner model changes who HI-COM looks for and how the search is run. Most companies default to “distributor” without checking whether an agent or importer actually fits their situation better.
Distributor
Buys your product outright, holds inventory, and resells it through its own network. Fits when you want a partner who takes on inventory risk and already has reach into the right retail or B2B channels.
Agent
Represents you and sells on your behalf without taking ownership of the goods, usually for a commission. Fits when you want to keep more control over pricing and the customer relationship.
Importer
Handles the customs and import-compliance side of getting your product into China, and may distribute it as well. Fits when import documentation and compliance are the main hurdle.
HI-COM helps you decide which model fits before the search starts, then looks for candidates that match it — talk it through with our team.
HOW HI-COM FINDS THE RIGHT PARTNER
What HI-COM Does, Step by Step
Map the Field
Identify distributors, importers and channel partners already active in your category and region.
Vet the Candidates
Narrow the field to candidates who are realistically reachable and worth your time.
Open the Door
Use chamber-network and trade-show relationships to reach decision-makers directly.
Support the Introduction
Stay involved through the first conversation and early-stage negotiation.
HOW WE VET A CANDIDATE
Not Every Reachable Company Is the Right One
Chamber events and trade shows like Canton Fair and the China Fisheries & Seafood Expo open the door to real candidates — but reachable is not the same as right. Every candidate is checked against the same criteria before HI-COM makes an introduction.
Chamber & Trade-Show Reference Check
Confirmed through HI-COM’s own AustCham, BritCham, CanCham and CCI France Chine relationships, not just a company’s own claims.
Existing Distribution Reach
Does the candidate already reach the regions and channels you actually need, or just claim to?
Portfolio Fit
Does your product sit naturally alongside what they already sell, or compete with it?
Responsiveness
A chamber or trade-show introduction still needs a candidate who actually replies and engages.
On-the-Ground Verification
Where useful, HI-COM’s China-based team verifies a candidate directly — as with RUBY Global Solutions’ Beijing headquarters visit.
Realistic Scale
Matching candidate size to your project, rather than defaulting to the largest name available.

CASE STUDY
RUBY Global Solutions: Finding Reachable Suppliers Outside the Top Tier
RUBY Global Solutions, a soy protein feed producer, needed to connect with Chinese soybean protein manufacturers. Approaching the industry’s top global tier directly, the most obvious starting point, was unlikely to lead anywhere: those companies are the hardest to reach and the least likely to respond to an unfamiliar international buyer.
HI-COM’s consulting team mapped the field of Chinese soybean protein manufacturers and looked past the top-tier names to mid-tier manufacturers already active in the right channels, companies with the production capability RUBY needed but without the same wall of unresponsive gatekeepers. Reaching them wasn’t a cold email: HI-COM used its own chamber-network and trade-show contacts to confirm which of these companies were genuinely reachable and worth approaching.
That targeted approach led to a direct invitation to visit a target company’s Beijing headquarters, a level of access that a generic supplier list or an unintroduced approach to the top tier would not have produced.

Your Product Still Needs to Ship With the Right Documentation
User Manual Technical Writing & Translation
Finding the right distributor, agent or importer is only part of getting a product into the China market. Once a partner is in place, your product usually still needs user manuals, instruction guides and technical documentation that are written, designed and prepared in the right languages. HI-COM’s technical writing team handles that as a direct next step — including on-site visits to your supplier or factory in China to observe the product firsthand — so partner search and documentation can run as one connected process instead of two separate vendors.

What’s the difference between partner search and market research at HI-COM?
Market research answers what the China market looks like: competitors, pricing and consumer behavior. Partner search takes it further and finds the actual distributors, importers or channel partners you could work with. Many projects use both, but each also stands on its own.
Do you only search for distributors, or also manufacturers and suppliers?
HI-COM’s partner search covers distributors, importers and channel partners as the primary focus, and can extend to manufacturer and supplier sourcing depending on your project, as it did for RUBY Global Solutions.
How does HI-COM find candidates that a generic supplier directory wouldn’t?
Through chamber-network membership (AustCham, BritCham, CanCham, CCI France Chine) and trade-show relationships built over years in China, rather than cold outreach alone. That’s what turned a mid-tier manufacturer into a company willing to host a visit at its Beijing headquarters for RUBY Global Solutions.
Can partner search be combined with market entry strategy?
Yes, and it often is. Partner search findings can feed directly into HI-COM’s China Market Entry Strategy service, so a partner search project can extend into a full entry plan without starting over with a new vendor.
Is the information I share during a partner search kept confidential?
Yes. Company and project information you share with HI-COM’s consulting team is treated as confidential and used only for your project.
Does HI-COM only work with large multinational companies, or also smaller businesses?
HI-COM works with companies of different sizes, from first-time China entrants to established multinational brands; the search scope adjusts to your project rather than following one fixed package.
Can I contact HI-COM’s consulting team on WeChat instead of the contact form?
Yes. Scan the WeChat QR code on this page to reach HI-COM’s team directly, or use the contact form if you would rather send a written project brief first.
What’s the difference between a distributor, an agent and an importer in China?
A distributor buys your product outright and resells it through its own network. An agent represents you and sells on your behalf, usually for a commission, without taking ownership of the goods. An importer handles the customs and import-compliance side of getting your product into China, and may distribute it as well. HI-COM helps you decide which model fits before the search starts.
How long does a partner search typically take?
Timelines depend on the industry, category and how narrow the criteria are, so HI-COM agrees a realistic timeline with you at the start of the project rather than quoting one fixed figure for every search.
Does HI-COM search across all of China, or only certain regions?
HI-COM’s chamber and trade-show network spans multiple cities and regions rather than one location, and the search is scoped to wherever your target distributors, importers or channel partners are actually active.
What happens after HI-COM makes an introduction?
HI-COM stays involved through the first conversation and early-stage negotiation. If you need a fuller go-to-market plan afterward, partner search findings can feed directly into China Market Entry Strategy.
Can HI-COM also handle the user manuals and technical documentation my product needs?
Yes. Once a partner is in place, HI-COM’s technical writing team can prepare the user manuals, instruction guides and technical documentation your product needs, including on-site visits to your supplier or factory in China. See User Manual Technical Writing for details.
