Academic Document Translation for Degree Verification & Study Abroad in China
Whether you’re using a foreign degree in China, verifying a Chinese qualification, or applying to study abroad, HI-COM provides the certified academic translation these processes typically require — from an ISO 17100 certified team working in 40+ languages. Choose your situation below to get started.

Certified Translation for CSCSE Credential Evaluation
If you hold a foreign degree and it’s going through China’s CSCSE credential evaluation — for a work permit, university enrolment, or professional licensing — HI-COM translates and certifies the academic documents that the employer, university or authority relying on that evaluation may separately require. (CSCSE performs the credential evaluation itself; HI-COM does not.)

If you’re applying to a university outside China, or need a Chinese academic transcript translated for a CHSI verification process, HI-COM produces certified translations accepted by international admissions offices and, where the relevant CHSI process allows it, transcript translations carrying the required translation-provider seal.

CSCSE Credential Evaluation
What Is CSCSE Credential Evaluation?
The China Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) evaluates eligible foreign and overseas higher-education qualifications for use in China. Foreign graduates may need a CSCSE evaluation when using an overseas degree for employment, further study or certain administrative procedures in China.
CSCSE performs the credential evaluation directly. HI-COM does not submit, manage or perform CSCSE applications.
Do I Need My Degree Translated for CSCSE?
A separate Chinese translation from a translation company is generally not required solely for the CSCSE credential-evaluation application itself.
However, the organization using your qualification — such as an employer, university, government bureau or professional body — may separately require a certified translation of your degree, transcript or supporting documents. HI-COM provides professional and certified academic-document translations for these requirements.
HI-COM’s Role in CSCSE-Related Cases
HI-COM translates foreign degree certificates, academic transcripts and related supporting documents, with certified or stamped translation where required by the receiving authority — for employment, university or administrative use connected with your qualification.
HI-COM’s role does not include CSCSE credential evaluation, CSCSE application submission, managing your CSCSE account, determining whether CSCSE will recognise a qualification, or guaranteeing acceptance.
HI-COM provides document translation only. CSCSE credential evaluation is performed independently by CSCSE.

CHSI Verification & Study Abroad Translation
What Is CHSI?
CHSI / 学信网 is China’s official higher-education information platform and provides verification services for Chinese student status, qualifications, degrees, transcripts and other education records.
It is primarily relevant to qualifications issued by Chinese institutions and should not be treated as a substitute for CSCSE evaluation of a foreign university degree.
Do CHSI Documents Need Translation?
It depends on the service. Some official CHSI verification reports can be obtained in English directly through the CHSI system.
For academic transcript verification, when a Chinese university cannot issue an official English transcript, an English translation prepared by a professional translation service provider may be used according to the applicable CHSI requirements.
TRANSLATION OPPORTUNITY
If your Chinese university cannot issue an English transcript, a professional English translation may be required for the relevant CHSI transcript-verification process. HI-COM can prepare the translation and apply the appropriate company translation seal.
Translating a Diploma or Transcript for Study Abroad
Chinese students applying to universities outside China are usually required to submit certified translations of their diploma, academic transcript, and sometimes their gaokao (China’s national college entrance exam) results. Foreign admissions offices need not just an accurate translation of the grades themselves, but also a clear explanation of how the Chinese grading system compares to their own.
HI-COM translates diplomas, transcripts and gaokao results, and can include a grading-system explanation alongside the translation where it strengthens the application.
How HI-COM Handles Academic Document Translation
Because of the precise nature of academic translation and the specific terminology involved — whether that’s a CSCSE-related file, a CHSI transcript, or a university application — HI-COM assigns translators who specialise in the academic field concerned.
Each project is handled by a project manager, a translator and a proofreader, and that same team stays available throughout the project for any modification or additional request.
HI-COM and its translators work with translation memory and content-management tools that build a client-specific glossary of academic and technical terms, keeping terminology consistent across a project and across a client’s future work. All academic translation projects are handled in strict confidence and can be covered by an NDA signed before work begins.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CSCSE require a certified Chinese translation of my foreign degree?
Not generally for the CSCSE credential-evaluation application itself. CSCSE normally accepts the required foreign-language documents according to its application rules without requiring a translation-company Chinese version. However, an employer, university or other authority using the CSCSE result may separately require a certified translation.
Can HI-COM submit my CSCSE application?
No. CSCSE evaluation is carried out directly by CSCSE. HI-COM provides professional translation and certification of academic documents where these are required for the wider administrative, employment or university process.
Are CSCSE and CHSI the same?
No. CSCSE is principally used to evaluate eligible foreign / overseas higher-education qualifications for use in China. CHSI primarily verifies Chinese student status, qualifications, degrees and other Chinese academic records.
Do I need a translation for CHSI?
It depends on the type of CHSI service. Some official CHSI verification records are available in English directly from CHSI. For academic transcript verification, a professional English translation may be used when the university cannot issue an English transcript, subject to the applicable CHSI requirements.
What academic documents can HI-COM translate?
HI-COM can translate degree certificates, diplomas, academic transcripts, gaokao records and other academic or university-application documents in 40+ languages, with certification / company sealing where required.
How long does academic document translation take?
Turnaround depends on the document type and the language pair. Tell us your deadline when you get in touch and we’ll confirm a realistic delivery time before you commit.
Is my document kept confidential?
Yes — all academic documents are handled in strict confidence, and HI-COM can sign an NDA before work begins if required.
Certified Translation
Many documents on this page — degree certificates, transcripts, supporting paperwork — need to be certified to be accepted. A certified translation should consist of three parts: the translation itself, a copy of the original-language document, and the translation company’s official seal, with each page stamped separately. It may also require a signed and stamped statement affirming that the translation is an accurate and complete rendering of the source document, together with the translator’s or agency’s date and contact details.
Check in advance whether additional documents, such as a copy of the translation company’s business licence, are required by the receiving institution. See HI-COM’s full guide: Certified Chinese Translation Services.
Some cases also require an apostille on the underlying document — see HI-COM’s guide, Getting a Diploma Apostilled in China, if that applies to you.
HI-COM is competent to perform translations between Chinese and English, and the documents it issues are complete and accurate translations of the original.
