What is the difference between a certified and non-certified Chinese interpreter?

One of the main differences between a certified and non-certified Chinese interpreter is that one has paid fees, passed academic tests, and has been awarded a certificate, whilst the other is simply bilingual and can translate a different spoken language from/into Chinese. However, although both are capable of delivering the spoken language successfully, the level at which it is achieved can differ greatly.

At HI-COM, our interpreters have at least five years of experience in various industry sectors, and each hold a degree in linguistics/interpreting from leading universities around the world.  If you’d like to find out more about certified/non-certified Chinese interpreters, get in touch today!

How do I get an official document translated?

how to get official document translation

In order to have an official document translated, it is possible to call upon a translation agency which will itself call upon its certified translators who are able to translate an official document. Indeed, some countries require a certified or sworn translation of certain so-called official documents, such as a loan application to a foreign bank, a marriage contract or a driver's license. So, how do I get an official document translated? A translation agency such as HI-COM will take care of choosing a translator from its agency who is sworn, native in the desired language and specialized in the field of the project. This translator will have been selected by a project manager in charge and responsible for your project. Thus, the process of obtaining a translation of an official document is somewhat different from that of a normal translation. In order to obtain a sworn translation of an official document you need to: - Send your document(s) by email (scan or photos), or at our offices in Shanghai or Nice . - HI-COM will assign the project to one of its certified translators, who will translate your document and affix its apostille or seal or affix and signature depending on whether the translation is certified or sworn. - Receipt of the document at HI-COM's headquarters for quality control of the document - HI-COM sends you your digital and paper translation from HI-COM.

Who can translate an official document?

The translation of an official document cannot be done by just any translator. Indeed, in order to translate a document of this nature, the translator must be recognized by a court of law as being entitled to certify the translation of a document and to swear it under oath. HI-COM's certified translators only produce translations of official documents that include: - Their signature - A seal - The registration number of the translated document

What is a certified translation agency?

certified translation aagency

A certified translation agency specializes and provides translation and interpreting in a variety of different languages. Every interpreter and/or translator employed by the agency will be certified and have the correct training and experience so to deliver the translation or interpreting at a high standard. Dependent on the need for the translation it may need to be notarized, certified, or even performed by a sworn translator; all of which can be dealt with by a translation agency such as HI-COM.

What is sworn translation?

A sworn translation is different from a certified translation. In fact, it is not used or requested in the same cases and requires a different process of translation and certification. So, how do you recognize a sworn translation?
A sworn translation is produced by a translator who has been sworn beforehand in a court of law in order to be able to produce this type of translation. The main difference with a normal translation is that the translator stamps the document in order to make the translation sworn, thanks to it. It is therefore recognized as official by the courts and the administration.
A sworn translation can also be recognized by the words certified true to the original, the translators signature and apostille.
Like a normal translation, it must be as similar as possible to the original, but it must include additional information attesting to the certified nature of the translation.
You can thus obtain a sworn translation for your diplomas, Erasmus exchanges, etc.
Thus, a sworn translation is easily distinguished from a normal translation and is requested in different cases.
