The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), is an academy that organizes annual awards ceremonies in the fields of film, television and video games in the United Kingdom, called BAFTA Awards. BAFTA’s statutes claim to “support, develop and promote the art of the animated image, through the identification and reward of excellence, which inspires professionals for the benefit of the public”. The Academy is composed of approximately 6,000 professionals from the film, television and video game industries. BAFTA’s headquarters are located in Piccadilly, London.
The Academy trophies are in the form of a theatre mask. They were created in 1955 for the Guild of Television Producers by the American sculptor Mitzi Cunliffe.
